1904 World’s Fair Map

Hello, everyone!

I can’t believe it’s taken me until the very end of March to make my first post of 2019! I don’t know if I should apologize or just shrug and laugh… because that’s just life sometimes.

I’ll just cut to the chase. Last night I got the coolest email from the curator of the St. Clair County Historical Society, Will Shannon. He sent me 2 photo attachments– scans of an old map of the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. The coolest part about this is that it was sponsored by The Romeiser Company. As you well know by now, we live in the Romeiser house and have become incredibly interested in the original family.

IMG-1528He explained that he came across it while re-cataloging a donation made in the 1980s.

This is just conjecture but he suggested the map may have been printed and handed out to those in attendance for Belleville, Illinois Day at the fair (September 16, 1904). How incredible that Peter Romeiser’s business got so much exposure through this sponsorship! It must have been huge.

I immediately took to eBay to see if I could track down one for our collection. No dice. But it’s okay! Maybe someday.

In the meantime, enjoy these images of the map. We’re going to go see it in person sometime soon. Shared with permission, courtesy of the St. Clair County Historical Society.

How cool is THAT?! Big Hugs to whoever finds one for me on an auction site.

’til then,
The Brick and Maple Fam
